Humana Patients

Regrettably, we will no longer be in the Humana network effective Jan 16, 2010. For several years Humana reduced reimbursement to physicians and other providers of medical services. The latest contract negotiations with Humana produced an offering that was unacceptable for us to continue to provide you - our patients - the level of care you deserve.

Please discuss with your provider the options of continuing to see him or her out of network. We will work with each patient to insure our continued relationship.

We also encourage you to contact your HR department. Tell them what happened, and please encourage them to contact Humana and tell them as a customer that you want a fair contract for your physician.

We have seen this work successfully in the past, when YOU the end customer - speaking through your HR department - tell the insurer that you expect them to pay a fair compensation to the providers of your medical care.

HEART FIRST - Dr. James Rellas Coming To TienaHealth!!

We are excited to announce that one of the Metroplex top regarded Cardiologists, James Rellas, M.D., founder of HEART FIRST will be seeing patients at TienaHealth beginning in December!

Dr. Rellas is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Nuclear Cardiology, Vascular Interpretation, Cardiovascular Computer Tomography (Coronary CTA), and the American Society of Hypertension.

He has been twice recognized as one of D-Magazine's "Best Doctors", has been published in over 20 journals and magazine articles, and holds a master's degree in medical management.

Beginning in December, Dr. Rellas will see patients AT TienaHealth Irving / Las Colinas one afternoon a month.

TienaHealth Welcomes Daniel R. Canchola, M.D.

Beginning Monday September 21, 2009, Tiena Welcomes Dr. Daniel Canchola. Here is his bio:

Daniel R. Canchola, M.D. is the newest addition to the medical staff at TienaHealth. Dr. Canchola specializes in diabetes care, helping patients understand the disease and the value of diligence beyond medicine, including education, diet, and exercise. He also specializes in minor outpatient surgical procedures.

Dr. Canchola graduated from The University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio School of Medicine and went on to complete his medical training at John Peter Smith Family Practice Residency Program in Fort Worth, Texas. Prior to joining TienaHealth, he worked at other clinics in the area, including the Las Colinas location of Diabetes America.

With a focus on disease prevention and preventive care, Dr. Canchola believes patient education is paramount. He emphasizes diet, exercise, goal setting and lifestyle management for his all his patients. He recognizes the importance of developing an open and friendly relationship and chooses to talk with patients "person to person” rather than doctor to patient. His practical philosophy complements TienaHealth's mission to empower patients to take control of their health.

In his spare time, Dr. Canchola enjoys family time with his wife and twin boys, weightlifting and playing rhythm guitar in a rock band.

Health Care Reform - President Obama Speech

As far as Health Care reform is concerned, we at TienaHealth are still watching the debate unfold, and then we will help you - our patients - understand how best to maximize your health resources.

However, after watching President Obama's speech on 9-9-09, we were left with a question. With all the services and changes that were suggested, toward the end of the speech the initial estimated price tag of just short of a Trillion dollars finally surfaced.

There was no plan listed how to pay for it, except for savings that the plan itself would create.

We are left wondering if there are any other examples one could point to out there where government savings in one program (from greater efficiency and cost reduction) helped fund another?

Flu Shots - Influenza A, B and H1N1, Swine Flu

There's a lot of discussion about the flu vaccine this season, especially in light of the H1N1, or Swine Flu. We will have more posts coming on this topic in the weeks ahead, and you can always discuss this with your TienaHealth doctor, but here are some general things to keep in mind for now:

1 - The standard flu shot you will receive at the clinic or some place else beginning in October will NOT protect you from H1N1. It is for influenza A & B, just as it has been in previous years. The swine flu shot is coming out separately.

2 - The best time to get the flu shot is mid-to late October.

3 - The H1N1 Swine flu shot is not out yet. It has not been widely tested, so its effectiveness is still unknown. Doses are being carefully allocated, and you must fall in a particular risk group in order to receive one.

Winter Season - How do you deal with Winter?

Wait a minute, you ask!  It's JUNE.  This is summer!

We're talking about economic winter.  Here at Tiena, we have patients coming in every day who are experiencing the greatest economic Winter Season of their lives.  Many are without work, and have little hope.  It's truly touching to be involved in people's lives during these days.

You don't have to look far to see gloom and doom about this "economic winter" season.

However, part of our passion at Tiena is helping you be healthy in all the areas of your life.  Navigating through economic seasons is part of managing your overall health - especially through the issue of perspective.  You see, many are "stuck" in the gloom and doom "perspective" of winter. 

If you think of your favorite ski resort - Like Vail, Colorado, for example - they THRIVE during winter!  Winter is a BOON in Vail!  They make most of their money for the year - not in summer, but during WINTER!

Why?  Because they "created" an opportunity where many would thrive in winter!  While the farm lands of the midwest, and the plantations of the south are dormant for 6 months, Vail is at peak productivity!  And what was Vail 50 years ago?  Nothing but a long, desolate valley along a Colorado Interstate, with only a gas station, a Village Inn diner and a humble Holiday Inn at an intersection.

They (people just like you) CREATED Vail...for winter!  As you think about your life during these times, think about how you can create for yourself wonderful, beautiful, magic opportunities to prosper in winter.  Share it with the world, and watch your situation begin to turn around.
